Disabled sailboat removed from cruise ship path; stoned stowaway stowed in county jail

The latest happenings of the Harbor Patrol

May 12

— HP impounded a vessel that was illegally anchored in Glorietta Bay without a valid permit. This vessel was recently impounded for the same violation.

May 9

— HP were dispatched to the area of the Grape Street Pier to investigate two subjects that were seen inside the restricted (fenced off) area on the pier. HP found that the subjects who were now gone from the area, were seen to be throwing regulatory buoys into the water from the storage area on the pier. HP are still investigating and looking at camera footage and the buoys were later retrieved.

May 7

— HP responded to the Kona Kai Marina to investigate a domestic violence call aboard a vessel. It was soon found the parties involved were in a loud verbal argument and there was no physical altercation. HPD documented the incident per requirements by law and left the scene.

— HP was dispatched to a large fishing vessel at the Commercial Basin near Seaport Village to investigate a subject acting erratically aboard the boat. The owner of the vessel located the unknown subject aboard his boat and told the officers he was now laying down on the upper deck. HP contacted the subject and after waking him he immediately showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics and alcohol. The subject was eventually transported to County Jail.

May 6

— HP issued a citation to a vessel owner who was illegally moored at the HP guest docks. Subject was also in violation of vessel not being currently registered.

May 5

— HP made contact with a female subject at the Shelter Island station and discovered that she was the subject of a restraining order that was in need of service. HP properly served female with the terms of the order. Same female subject was contacted and admonished for trespassing at a nearby Shelter Island hotel soon after being released.

May 4

— HP responded to the report of an intoxicated male subject at a bay side park in N. San Diego bay. HP located and determined subject could not care for himself. Subject was placed subject under arrest for public intoxication.

May 2

— HP responded to the Broadway Cruise Ship pier for the report of a male subject who had climbed around the fence and was trespassing. HP located and contacted the subject who was then admonished by the on duty wharfinger for trespassing after it was determined that there was no breach of security.

— HP responded to a 30’ sailboat that was disabled in the main channel in north San Diego bay. HP located sailboat which had a disabled motor and malfunctioning sails. Due to a cruise ship entering the bay at this time and to avoid a possible collision, HP towed sailboat outside of channel to a safe anchor location until vessel assist arrived on scene.

May 1

— HP responded to the commercial basin for a report of an abandoned dinghy at one of the piers. HP located a 10’ abandoned dinghy with no registration or hull identification number. Dinghy was towed to and stored at the HP Shelter Island station.

April 30

— HP responded to a N. Bay marina to investigate a non-injury, hit & run vessel collision. HP located both involved vessels which had sustained minor damage due to mechanical failure as one vessel was leaving the dock. Report taken
