Ex-Republican assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, who turned independent and then Democrat while placing third in two bids to become San Diego’s mayor, continues to ramp up an apparent try for the county supervisor’s seat being vacated next year by termed-out Republican Ron Roberts.
Next appearance for the former executive at Qualcomm (cofounded by his political angel billionaire Irwin Jacobs) is coming up June 15 when Fletcher joins once-imprisoned plaintiffs’ attorney Bill Lerach and wife Michelle for a $500-a-person benefit on behalf of the ACLU Foundation of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Procopio, the big downtown law and lobbying outfit that recently acquired the services of Republican ex-San Diego city attorney Jan Goldsmith, also has the ear of Mara Elliott, his Democratic successor, based on the firm’s latest lobbying disclosure filing.
No fewer than four of the firm’s lawyers, including Robin Madaffer (wife of ex-city councilman Jim Madaffer) are reported to have engaged in “fundraising activities” for Elliott. Madaffer also raised cash for GOP mayor Kevin Faulconer and councilmembers Lorie Zapf, Chris Cate, and Scott Sherman, per the report.
