No Pier to Surf

While George Freeth may have coached Duke Kahanamoku while in San Diego in 1916, it is very doubtful “Kahanamouku surfed the O.B. Pier,” according to John Elwell. There was no pier in Ocean Beach in 1916. There was a bridge from the foot of Bacon Street in Ocean Beach to Mission Beach, but the surf probably never reached this bridge.

People's Climate March

  • Saturday, April 29, 2017, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego
  • Free

I’m reading the new issue of the Reader (April 27) and I see that you have omitted the People’s Climate March on Saturday, April 29, from your event listings. I find that kind of strange. I know it’s been well-publicized, and I would think a publication that has so many interests could at least consider something about our climate and the health of the planet.

A Lowrider Is Not a Hot Rod, John

I’m responding to the letter writer named John (“It’s a Hot Rod. Get Over It,” April 27). John states, “A hot rod covers a lot of different types of vehicles,” which includes a lowrider. He’s wrong.

As far as a hot rod is concerned, it is modified for power and speed whereas a lowrider has no consideration for power or speed. So, by definition, a lowrider is not a hot rod, as John states.

Perhaps there should be a lowrider category at car shows, if for no other reason than to educate people like John.

Not Being Held Accountable

You did a story on Jacob Cooper being arraigned on Wednesday (“KOGO Radio Financial Stock Tout Arrested in Utah”) for defrauding a bunch of us. I’m one of the people he defrauded in the Total Wealth Management scam.

I’m just wondering why Brittany Fowler, who now touts herself as a motivational speaker at BrittanyDelivers.com, isn’t being held accountable for anything. She was Jacob’s right hand, running all the administration of the offices and everything that was going on. I’m not finding her anywhere being held accountable for the lies, and the deceit, and the cover-ups that she was administrating.
