The House at the End of Time (Venezuela, 2013) is not your typical supernatural horror movie. It focuses on Dulce, who is unjustly imprisoned for killing her son. Excellent writing, directing, and acting make you feel like a neighbor invested in Dulce and her sons’ well being. Throughout the film we root for her vindication but the real resolution is even more beautiful. Director Alejandro Hidalgo is much better at twists than M. Night Shyamalan.
Yes, Shrek, the Musical (USA, 2013) is basically the same as the animated movie but you actually do feel like you are on Broadway (great for those who live far from good theater). Sutton Foster is amazing (as are the performers playing Shrek, Farquaad, Donkey, and Pinocchio), and the original songs are spot-on. With the “Be happy with yourself” message, I actually think this should be required viewing for students entering junior high school!
