There’s a jam session going on tonight, led by guitarist Louis Valenzuela with Harley Magsino and TBA on drums at Busalacchi’s Modo Mio (3707 Fifth Avenue) from 6 to 9 p.m. No cover.

Vocalist Rebecca Jade leads a trio with David Owen on keys and Michael Kennedy on bass at Café 21 (802 Fifth Avenue) at 7 to 10 p.m. No cover…. The Sue Palmer Motel Swing Quintet play Tio Leo’s (5302 Napa Street) at 7:30 p.m.

Gilbert Castellanos begins the first of two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) at 6 p.m. when he presents the Young Lions Series featuring the students of the International Academy of Jazz including John Murray, Johnny Steele, Alvin Paige, Zion Dyson, Andrew Martinez, Jason Picker, and Nick Vedee. At 8:30 Castellanos heads inside to the Copley Auditorium to lead the Latin jam session with Irving Flores and Rob Thorsen. All ages, no cover, no minimum. Musicians and artists are encouraged to attend.

Thursday 30
The Red Notes featuring Phil Bowden, Nina Leilani, Nico Hueso, and Leah Bowden play Kafe Sobaka (2469 Broadway) at 7:30 p.m. No cover charge.

Friday 31
Saxophonist Mark Lessman leads a trio with Irving Flores and Antar Martin at Harbor Music Hall (1502 India Street) from 7:30 to 10:30 for a $10 cover… Vocalist Lorraine Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate (1055 Second Avenue) with Bob Magnusson and Sam Hirsh from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum… L.A. pianist Josh Nelson performs at Dizzy’s (1717 Morena Boulevard) with Dayna Stephens, Ed Livingston, and Lorca Hart at 8 p.m. Tickets go for $20 cash at the door.
