Begin the jazz week in style with a free concert featuring Joshua White on piano in duet with Peter Sprague on guitar at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street) from 12 to 1 p.m.… The Clayton Brothers Quintet with John and Jeff Clayton, Terell Stafford, Eric Reed, and Obed Calvaire play the Athenaeum Jazz at the Scripps Research Institute (10620 John Jay Hopkins Drive) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go for $35 general admission, $30 members, $15 student rush.

Tuesday 21
Soul-jazz diva Steph Johnson adds the Voices of Our City Choir plus Rob Thorsen, Nina Leilani, and Leah Bowden to perform at the House of Blues for the San Diego Music Awards (1055 Fifth Avenue) at 7 p.m. General admission $35.

Wednesday 22
Vocalist Whitney Shay stars in “Wine, Women and Song,” presented by the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture with Ed Kornhauser, Jodie Hill, and Charles Weller at the David & Dorothea Garfield Theater (4126 Executive Drive). Tickets are $22 general admission, $18 JCC members… Gilbert Castellanos begins the first of his two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) when he hosts the Young Lions Series at 6 p.m. At 8:30, he heads inside to the Copley Auditorium where he leads the jam session until 11:30 p.m. All ages, no cover, no minimum.

Thursday 23
Duo 442 with Kevin Jones on guitar and Mackenzie Leighton on bass play the Bella Vista Caffe and Social Club (2880 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover charge… Vocalist Leonard Patton and guitarist Peter Sprague play in duo at Off Broadway Live (9490 Cuyamaca Street) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $27, which includes the price of a drink.

Steph Johnson plus the Voices of Our City Choir play the Turning the Hearts Community Center (345 Fifth Avenue in Chula Vista) from 12 p.m. Free… The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Richard Sellers play Bourre Bistro (6628 University Avenue) from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover… Vocalist Lorraine Castellanos leads a trio with Bob Magnusson and Bob Boss 8 p.m. at the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue) No cover, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum… Whitney Shay & The Hustle with Ian Patrick Cler, Jacob Miranda, Matt Smith and Jonny Tarr play Park & Rec (4612 Park Boulevard) from 10 p.m. to midnight. No cover.

The Irving Flores Trio with Rob Thorsen and Brett Sanders play Harbor Music Hall (1506 India Street) from 7 to 10 p.m. $10 gets you in the door… Vocalist Allison Adams Tucker leads a quartet for SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) day with Melonie Grinnell, Sherry Luchette and Johanna Su at the Westgate Hotel at 8 p.m. No cover, $20 food/drink minimum… The Joshua White Trio with Dean Hulett and Duncan Moore play Dizzy’s (1717 Morena Boulevard) at 8 p.m. $20 cash at the door.

The Coronado Big Band with Tokeli Baker play the Coronado Ferry Landing (1201 First Street) from 1 to 3 p.m. It’s free and family friendly…The Steph Johnson duo with Rob Thorsen play the Turf Club (1116 25th Street) from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover.
