La Jolla’s Craig Venter, the genomic giant who gets regular positive write-ups in his hometown Union-Tribune, was spared mention in the paper when it was announced two weeks ago that his Human Longevity, Inc. was folding the Singapore operation it set up two years ago.
“We made this decision because the time differences and general geographic separation of teams in multiple locations for some of our most critical functions was not a sustainable way for us to most effectively manage our business,” Heather Kowalski, the company’s head of corporate communications and public affairs — and Venter’s wife — told the publication Asian Scientist. “Thus, we have consolidated the Singapore functions into our San Diego and Mountain View, California offices.”
