July 21

HPD Dive Team members conducted a security sweep and assessment at Broadway Pier prior to the arrival of the newly named USS Gabrielle Giffords, which is an Independence-class littoral combat ship of the United States Navy

HP responded to the anchorage just outside SD Bay near Zuniga Jetty for a female claiming to be in distress. The female was eventually taken to County Mental Health for an evaluation.

HP impounded an illegally anchored sailboat near the Shelter Island fishing pier. The vessel appeared to be abandoned.  HP is investigating and will be filing charges to the owner when located.

HP stopped a vessel for operating without navigational lights at night near Americas Cup harbor. The vessel operator was found to be under the influence and was arrested for BUI.

July 18

HP impounded an adrift kayak from the area of the A-4 Anchorage near the Coronado Bridge. The owner later responded to pick it up.

July 17

HP documented graffiti that was painted on a bridge near N. Harbor Drive.

July 16

HP responded to the Coronado Cays for a small vessel fire on a private dock. Upon HP arriving, the landside Coronado Fire Department had extinguished the fire. HP assisted with the overhaul and cleanup then towed the vessel to Marine Group Boat Works. The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.

HP towed an adrift dinghy from the Shelter Island launch ramp for being a hazard to navigation. The dinghy was impounded and later retrieved by the owner.

HP was dispatched to the Zuniga jetty to assist a boater in distress. The small vessel was having engine troubles and was being pushed towards the rocks by the winds and current. HP arrived and pulled the vessel away from the rocks and towed to the Shelter Island launch ramp. Upon reaching the ramp, the operator was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
