Trumpeter Stephanie Richards plus Phantom Station present Conduction for Butch Morris with special guests at the Loft (911 Lyman Lane) at 8 p.m. This concert is also free.
Wednesday 1
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos presents the Young Lions Series featuring the Pink Trio at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) at 6 p.m. At 8:30, he switches gears to lead the Latin jazz jam session with Irving Flores and Rob Thorsen until 11:30 p.m. All ages, no cover, musicians and painters bring your tools!... Guitarist Peter Sprague plays in duo with flutist Beth Ross Buckley at the Mission Hills Library (925 West Washington Street) at 6:30 p.m. Concert is free.

Gary Rich leads the First Thursday Jam at Bourre Southern Bistro (6523 University Avenue) featuring himself on trumpet, Jason Shattil on piano, and Dean Hulett on bass from 6:30 to 9 p.m. No cover charge.

Holly Hofmann’s Happy Hour series at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) continues with saxophonist John Rekevics leading a trio featuring Dave Marr on bass and Tim McMahon on drums from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, validated parking… Gilbert Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate (1055 Second Avenue) from 8 to 11 p.m. There’s no cover, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum… Wendell Brunious showcases the bands from Correia Middle School and Mission Bay High School at Dizzy’s (1717 Morena Boulevard) at 7 p.m. Tickets run $10 cash at the door, but students under the age of 18 attend for free.

New Orleans saxophonist Donald Harrison makes his debut performance at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street) leading a band with Zaccai Curtis on piano, Max Moran on bass, and Darryl Staves on drums at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $26 for general admission, $21 members and $15 student rush.
