You used to care. Now you don’t give a whit

Two poems by Jane Blanchard

Condo

  • This property is absolutely ideal
  • Because of the incredible view.
  • The design might be a bit dated,
  • But the price is totally appropriate.
  • The incredible view of the ocean
  • Beyond the easily accessible beach
  • Makes the price totally appropriate
  • (Even with my modest commission).
  • Of course, the beach is not really accessible
  • At high tide once or twice every day,
  • But my commission, plain and simple, has been
  • To find you the very best unit available.
  • Believe it or not, once or twice every day,
  • Someone from somewhere calls to see
  • If this very best unit is still available,
  • So you really should consider making an offer.
  • Then I can call someone somewhere to see
  • What might be easily signed and dated
  • In exchange for a considerable offer
  • On this absolutely ideal property.

Drudge

  • You hate your job. If only you could quit.
  • You put up with a lot to stay employed.
  • You’ve had enough. You want to say, “That’s it.”
  • Most days you feel like such a hypocrite.
  • You dread the work you thought you once enjoyed.
  • You hate your job. If only you could quit.
  • You used to care. Now you don’t give a whit.
  • Your interest in the work has been destroyed.
  • You’ve had enough. You want to say, “That’s it.”
  • Your new boss, like the last, is some dimwit.
  • Your colleagues keep you more or less annoyed.
  • You hate your job. If only you could quit.
  • Square peg/round hole — you never were a fit.
  • You used to go for what you now avoid.
  • You’ve had enough. You want to say, “That’s it.”
  • You fantasize about a final split.
  • You’d rather not end up in some tabloid.
  • You hate your job. If only you could quit.
  • You’ve had enough. You want to say, “That’s it.”

Now what can they do with Encinitas unstable cliffs?

Make the cliffs fall, put up more warnings, fine beachgoers?
