A strong week at the movies, if not necessarily a happy one for the kiddies. Not so much the ones in the seats — though we’re not holding out much hope for The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature — as the ones on the screen.
At last, a Katherine Heigl film that might make some money.
Let’s see: you’ve got the daughter found dead in the snow, the daughter who gets burned by boiling hot dog water, the daughter who gets traded to the devil and then gets her hands lopped off, the daughter who gets run over and then asks to possess an oversized doll, and the daughters of Baltimore struggling to make it through dance.
Not that it’s so much better for sons, what with the son who finds out that dad isn’t dad after all or the two sons whose parents go sexually haywire.
At least some kids get to learn a cool sport like fencing, you know?
