I was looking at a Reader yesterday and observed that the Surf Dog Competition coming up in Imperial Beach on Saturday was shown in two different places (Your Week and event listings), both with what are obviously the wrong times. I forgot to write you then, but I looked at your website just now under Events, and it’s the same error.
In the Reader itself, they were both obviously incorrect. The articles say the event starts at 8:00 p.m. I suspect people will know that it was probably supposed to be 8:00 a.m. I won’t be up at that hour on Saturday though!
We regret the error, in all the places it occurred. — Editor
Re: Neighborhood News,“Border Traffic Hell”
This doesn’t make any sense: I think the writer is talking about pedestrians who are going into Mexico. It’s the Mexican agents who are checking documents for southbound pedestrians.
Pedestrians used to flow freely. Now there are two lanes for walkers: one for Mexican citizens and the other for foreigners.
The Mexican lane continues to flow with a Mexican border agent (Instituto Nacional de Migración) sometimes asking for proof of citizenship by a simple, “¿Mexicano?” A convincing “Si lo soy,” or looking like you belong is usually enough to go through.
The foreigners’ lane gets delayed as American agents meticulously fill out forms, stamp passports, and give out a useless piece of paper that no one ever checks.
This note pertains to a letter published in the Reader. The letter headlined “Internet Trolls” is stupid. A complaint about individuals signing letters with the name “Name Withheld” is stupid. Here’s why. Anyone could simply make up a name and — guess what? — the author of the “Internet Trolls” letter would be perfectly satisfied.
I used my actual name this time, but if I had something offensive or stupid to say I could have used any random name. Maybe “Donald Trump” would suffice.
Re: Letters, “What’s His Background?”
Ssssslap!!!!!
