Just off El Cajon Boulevard and 30th Street, there is a surf shop that has a mandatory day off to surf every Monday and you don’t even have to work there to work there. You can’t work there on Mondays or before noon on the other six days a week they are open because they’ll be surfing.
Shaper Studios offers group and private shaping classes, workshops, glassing lessons and shaping bay rentals to do-it-yourself surfers. There is a membership program available for $30 per month which covers unlimited shaping and glassing bay access, free workshops, surf yoga classes, store discounts and a rack of boards for members to ‘test drive’.
The Self Shape Surf Festival is coming up this Saturday at Seaside Reef in Cardiff. The Self Shape Surf competition at the festival is the world’s only surf contest where every competitor rides his or her own handmade surfboard. The festival will take place right on the beach and is free and open to the public. Professional surfers, including Cam Richards, Andrew Doheny, Nathan Strom, Leah Dawson, Karina Rozunko, Mele Saili and Jen Smith, will be competing on their self-made boards in the surf contest.
