Some county gun owners are said to be irate about a recent local political endorsement by the Washington DC–based Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, but whether they will be loosening their campaign purse strings remains to be seen.
Democrat Mara Elliott, running for city attorney against the GOP’s Bob Hickey, revealed in an August 31 fundraising email that she had gotten the group’s backing. “This is a huge moment for us, because it affirms my commitment to keeping San Diego safe and makes clear to all of San Diego what my values and priorities will be as City Attorney.”
Hickey, on the other hand, has San Diego’s GOP Lincoln Club — noted for its take-no-prisoners political hit pieces — on his side. A club committee, San Diegans for Safe Neighborhoods Supporting Robert Hickey for City Attorney, dropped $20,000 for a poll on September 5, city disclosure filings show.
