On September 17, over 800 people turned out for the grand opening of the GS Glockstore in Kearny Mesa. The event raised over $6000 for fallen San Diego police officer John DeGuzman.

Representing the Clairemont/Kearny Mesa area of city-council district 6, Chris Cate read in his proclamation, “To support great small businesses in our community, and the Second Amendment.” Councilman Cate added, “I’m not only a supporter. I’m a customer.”

Among the many Glock accessories — "concealment" purses

The company is one of the largest U.S. online retailers of Austrian-made Glock pistols, but the company is better known in the gun world for its manufacturing of performance and custom parts — trigger systems, decorative slides, and magazine releases. All the custom parts are manufactured at their plant on Ruffner Street.

Owners Lenny and Tammy Magill have been in the gun business, with an online presence, for over two decades. It was when customers started walking into their unadvertised, non-signed warehouse along Murphy Canyon Road that they realized they should probably open a retail store.

The store also carries their own line of men’s and women’s clothing that aids in the concealment of weapons. The shop houses three “combat” rooms.

“It’s not a shooting range,” said Lenny. “It provides for real-life scenarios, self-defense skills, multiple targets coming in from multiple directions.” Customers at the grand opening could try out the combat rooms, and Glocks, for free, with only a $10 charge for ammo.

While people were waiting in line for the food truck that offered free ice cream sundaes, gun supporters were asking folks to sign seven petitions for initiative referendums that would repeal recently passed gun laws in California; one of the measures would allow for the purchase of certain items found in the GS Glockstore online catalog that are labeled “Not Available in California.”
