On the bay side of the Silver Strand north of Lowes Coronado Resort, there is a branch of Southwestern Community College tailored to water sports. The Crown Cove Aquatic Center is now offering credit courses and programs for the public.
Courses include stand-up paddleboard, sailing, kayaking, surfing, Hawaiian outrigger canoe, and keelboat sailing. Out of the water, there is a college-credit course in sand volleyball.
Sunday, May 22, from 11 a.m.–3 p.m., the Crown Cove Aquatic Center will be holding an open house free to the public.
