— HP Investigated a vessel that had sunk in the Driscoll’s Wharf in Americas Cup Harbor. A small fuel spill from the vessel was immediately contained and the vessel was raised.
— HP responded to a North Bay marina to investigate a domestic violence incident.
— HP dispatched to a dinghy adrift near the Grape Street piers. The dinghy was impounded and attempts are being made to locate the owner.
March 14
— HP responded to Kellogg Beach in the Shelter Island Basin to investigate wooden fence posts with concrete attached to them at the water’s edge. It was found that a fence from a nearby house had collapsed due to recent high tides.
March 13
— A juvenile whale is reported close to shore by concerned citizen. 3 Sam states all clear and the whale seemed to move on.
— 15 year old male assessed for aspiration after being rescued by Mission Beach Lifeguard. Engine 21, Medic 21, Unit 23, 2 Sam and 5 Lincoln respond to San Fernando. Patient is transported to Mercy.
— RP states she believes a boat is in distress 1 mile off Big Rock. 3 King meets with RP and Rescue West responds and locates the vessel fishing and clear.
— HP responded to Intrepid Landing in Americas Cup Harbor to investigate a diesel fuel spill.
March 12
— Cardiac arrest 1220 El Carmel Pl. on a 70 year old male. 3 King responding, at scene and advises CPR in progress. LG AED deployment with a shock. Patient is brought back and breathing at scene. Patient transported to UCSD via Medic 21.
— Multiple 911 calls of a swimmer in distress in the OB Pier rip, after the stations went out of service. 1 Sam and off duty guards respond. 1 guard goes to the tower and spots the person in the rip, states the victim goes face down, and submerges. Code X called at 1810 hours. Multiple resources requested. Victim recovered under water and brought to the surface at 1815 hrs. Victim brought to the beach. Medic 60 on scene for a scoop and haul to UCSD. Family member to follow to the hospital.
March 11
— HP responded to an assault on Shelter Island where a subject attacked the victim and then jumped into San Diego Bay in an attempt to evade officers. The subject was soon taken into custody without incident by the Harbor Police Dive Team and was transported to County Mental Health for evaluation.
— 4 Sam on patrol and flagged down on bike path at San Diego river. Unknown previous medical condition and Medics transport to Mercy.
— 83 yr. Patient with Trauma from fall at Dana Marina. Rescue vessel responds and medics arrive on scene to handle call.
— 50 yr. male with difficulty breathing at 700 Grand Ave. Lifeguards treat patient and medics transport to Scripps.
March 10
— Surfing accident at Tourmaline. 21 year old male with a laceration to right ear and head. Lifeguards and medics on scene. Medic 21 AMA the patient.
— Multiple swimmers in distress at Ocean Beach stub Jetty. OB main tower requests backup for 3 rescues in progress at stub jetty. All 3 persons rescued, rescue vessel gets on scene, no medics needed.
— HP investigated a fuel spill located near the Harbor Police Transient slips. It was found that a sailboat was having mechanical problems. The spill was controlled and the vessel was towed and taken out of the water.
San Diego Lifeguards are a 24 hour rescue agency whose responsibilities include water rescue, boat rescue, marine fire suppression, coastal cliff rescue, underwater search and recovery, swift water and flood search, rescue and emergency medical response. San Diego Lifeguards also handle enforcement of city, state and federal laws and regulations. Lifeguards are classified as peace officers with the power of arrest.
