Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning when he hosts the Young Lions Series at 6 p.m. and continuing when he leads the jam session at 8:30 p.m. All ages, no cover, musicians bring your horns!... The Jazz 88 Blues Jam goes down at Proud Mary’s Southern Bar & Grill (5500 Kearny Mesa Road) hosted by J. Otis Williams and Mark Augustin from 6 p.m. All ages, family-friendly.

The internationally regarded pianist Fred Hersch plays in duo with clarinetist Anat Cohen at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library (1008 Wall Street). There will be two shows, but the 7 p.m. show is sold out. Some tickets remain for the 9 p.m. show. $26 general admission, $21 members, $15 student rush.

Friday 10
Trombonist Matt Hall joins pianist Jason Shattil and bassist Bob Magnusson to play the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover charge, validated parking… L.A. vocalist Kenny Washington leads a trio with Josh Nelson and Anton Schwartz at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive). $20 at the door.

Saturday 11
Violinist Christopher Vitas has a record-release party for Willow Weep For Me at Dizzy’s at 8 p.m. with Sky Ladd, Justin Grinnell, and Duncan Moore. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Sunday 12
Nathan Hubbard leads a trio with Hugo Suarez and Jerome Salazar for the 98 Bottles Sunday Jam (2400 Kettner Boulevard) from 2:30 to 5 p.m. 21+, no cover… The Danny Green Trio plus strings with Justin Grinnell, Julien Cantelm, Kate Hatmaker, Igor Pandurski, Travis Maril, and Erica Erenyl play the Encinitas Library (540 Cornish Drive) from 12 to 1 p.m. You must be a member of the Friends of Encinitas Library to attend the concert. Membership is $10 seniors, $15 general. Download membership from encinitaslibfriends.org and bring it to the concert… Bassist Bert Turetzky is joined by Christopher Garcia and Tasha Smith Godinez at Dizzy’s at 7 p.m. $15 at the door.
