Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs tonight at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series in the patio, and continuing inside at 8:30 when he leads the jam session until 11:30 p.m. All ages, no cover no minimum.

Trumpet man Curtis Taylor plays a hometown gig with Eric Reed on piano, Ben Shepherd on bass and Richard Sellars on drums at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, (1008 Wall Street) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets run $26 general admission, $21 members, and $15 student rush… The Charlie Arbelaez Quartet plays one of their final S.D. gigs before Arbelaez and trombonist Matt Hall take off for New York City. With Ed Kornhauser and Charles Weller at the Westgate Poolside Series (1055 Second Avenue) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Charlie Arbelaez Organ Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Charles Weller plus various special guests play Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) from 9:30 p.m. No cover, you must be 21+ to enter… The Frank Potenza Trio with Rob Thorsen on bass and Jim Plank on drums play the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… Camarada presents Tango Nuevo: the music of Astor Piazzolla at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) at 8 p.m. $20 at the door.
