Santee beer company rebrand adopts a foodie focus
The Butcher's Brewing name has retired; Finest Made Ales is opening in its place.
Santee's Butcher's Brewing has ceased to be. Owner and brewer Rey Knight has decided to rebrand his beer company and start doing business as Finest Made Ales. The new entity will open its doors to the public August 19, with a remodeled tasting room at the same location Butcher's has been operating since 2013.
Knight announced Finest Made beers as “a more mature and evolved product” than the Butcher's roster. Prior to launching a brewery, Knight owned a specialty meats business, Knight Salumi Company, and his culinary interests will play a role in the new venture. Beer recipes will be developed with food pairings in mind, and Knight plans to eventually serve charcuterie boards to match.
A press release described the desire to pair food and beer under one brand, "Driven by the sense of community and shared conversation…often associated with sitting down for a meal with friends and family."
For fans of Butcher's Brewing beers, a rep for the company notes favorites will be occasionally made available as "throwback" releases. A few recipes will also be the takeoff point for Finest Made suds. However, the rep says they will be "refined and enhanced," in part with the help of upgraded brewing equipment.
Butcher's bottled beers — including Rye Select IPA and Continental Breakfast Stout — will disappear from retail shelves. Finest Made Ales anticipates new bottle releases by the end of 2016.
