Transient in the clink for pushing girls in the drink

...and other waterfront happenings from last week

1/21

— HPD was called to the A-3 anchorage for a report of a transient male pushing a female into the water. The male suspect then attempted to push her friend in as well. The female friend then leaped into the water to assist her friend that was unable to swim. Both females were treated and released. After a short foot pursuit by good Samaritans and our Chief, the suspect was apprehended and taken to jail for assault charges.

— Fall/Back injury on Quivira Ct by the Gazebo on a 3 year-old female. Unit 42 on scene, patient fainted inside the motor home parked in the lot. Medic 21 on scene and the patient’s guardian AMA.

— Sailboat owner reports his vessel took a couple of waves over his bow while rounding Pt Loma and lost his dinghy. Dinghy is now on the beach at the sewage treatment plant. 1Sam and 4Sam advised.

— La Jolla Shores guards request medics for a 42 year old male with a head/neck injury after striking the ocean floor. Patient AMA’s with E-9.

— Difficulty breathing/seizures at the Ocean Beach Pier, M-22 transports to UCSD.

— Medical aid at the OB tower for a 26 year old male with a back injury from a previous fall. M1 transports to Kaiser.

— Loose board with no owner. Surfbreak (Sub). 1Sam, Jet2, Rescue vessel respond. Jet2 finds owner in the water and escorts him to his board.

1/18

— 911 transfer from UCSDPD for a medical aid, RP says her friend is having a seizure. UCSDPD gives lat and long turns out to be at the La Jolla Bridge Club, 3-Sam already on scene. Patient AMA’s with E13.

— U-1 requests medics for a 25 year old male ETOH. Patient ends up being a detox run and PD handles.

— Cove lifeguards report a shock hazard from a light pole. 3Sam request station 38 to investigate, general services arrive on scene to fix issue.

— Fire MDC reporting an unconscious female in the women’s restroom at Abbot St. U12, E15 and M14 respond, female just sleeping/clear.

— Extrication at Dike Rock for a 16 year old female with an ankle injury. Patient is able to be walked out and M4 transports to Sharp Memorial.

— SDPD request a lifeguard response for a vehicle stuck on the beach at Feldspar. Vehicle is dug out and driven off the beach.

— Surfer in distress off Tourmeline. Stand up surfer lost board. Unit25 and 21Sam respond. 1 water rescue.

— 31 year old Female with a dislocated shoulder. Surfing injury at Tourmaline. Unit25, 21Sam, Engine21, Medic21 and rescue west respond. Patient taken to Scripps.

— 80 year old male. Fainting at bridge club at La Jolla Cove. Cove guard, Engine13, and Medic 35 respond. Fire handles.

— Broken tiller on rental sailboat. Rescue 1 reporting. Chase boat from Sport center sent. Clear.

— 2 swimmers in distress. Marine Street. Unit32, 3 Sam and Jet3 respond. Two rescues by unit 32.

— HPD responded to Pier 32 in National City to investigate a fuel spill.

— HPD responded to the HP Transient slips to preserve the peace for a civil dispute regarding a repossessed boat.

— Unconscious 35 year old male with unknown breathing on Ocean Blvd. 21Sam on scene with Engine 21 personnel on a workout. Person is oriented with ETOH on board. PD called and takes patient as an arrest.

— 849 Casa De Manana 90 year old male with respiratory problems. Lifeguards respond to assist. Fire and medics take over call. Lifeguards clear.

1/15

— HP issued a citation to a vessel that was on the HP Transient slips without permission or permit.

— Shark sighting at Wind n Sea Beach. 2 separate reporting parties spot a shark while they were surfing. Reporting party info given to 3Sam and Rescue 5 patrols.

— 12 foot skiff blown into C-38 in the Hyatt Mission Bay Marina. Rescue 2 on scene with the dock master. LG clear when the skiff is returned to the owner.

— HPD found a dinghy adrift near the Coronado Bridge.

— HPD dispatched to a 50-foot sailboat that was adrift near Shelter Island after it broke free from its mooring. The vessel was towed to the HP dock.

— Surfboard washed in without the surfer at the OB Pier. Unit 12 and Unit 1 meet with person on the beach who called 911. Surfer swims in and claims the board.

— Medical aid by the flood control channel on the bike path on a 70 year old male. Medic 20 meets with unit 42 and transports to UCSD Hillcrest.

— Call on SDPD for a dog in distress on Fiesta Island dog park. Guardian 1 responds. The dog got back to the beach before we got there. Self rescue.

San Diego Lifeguards are a 24 hour rescue agency whose responsibilities include water rescue, boat rescue, marine fire suppression, coastal cliff rescue, underwater search and recovery, swift water and flood search, rescue and emergency medical response. San Diego Lifeguards also handle enforcement of city, state and federal laws and regulations. Lifeguards are classified as peace officers with the power of arrest.
