San Diego County's unemployment rate dipped to 4.7 percent in December, down from a revised 4.8 percent in November. However, much of the improvement was a result of seasonal holiday hiring, greatly in retailing.
Total jobs were up by 200 between November and December. But retailing added 1900 jobs. One disappointment was the decline of 1600 in food services jobs. Did San Diegans do less restaurant dining and barroom imbibing in the last month of the year? Possibly.
The county added 37,500 jobs between December of 2014 and December of 2015, a rise of 2.7 percent.
