Three local residents were arrested following a botched attempt at robbing a Poway area Costco on Thursday afternoon, sheriff's deputies are reporting.
According to an account from sergeant Mark Haynesworth, two suspects later identified as 29-year-old Donald Scudder and 24-year-old Travis Hallak entered the store shortly before 6 p.m. "with the intent to steal several items." Danielle Holmes, 24, is accused of waiting outside the store to act as a getaway driver.
Security personnel contacted the sheriff's department after observing the pair's activity inside the store. When deputies responded Holmes became nervous and fled the scene, only to be located and arrested nearby.
Scudder, meanwhile, exited the building with a shopping cart filled with stolen merchandise and was apprehended while attempting to locate Holmes. Hallak fled out a different door and stole a car, which he used to make his getaway. He was later apprehended in Lakeside, still in possession of the stolen vehicle.
The trio were all booked into local detention facilities on charges including commercial burglary and intent to commit a crime. According to sergeant Haynesworth an investigation is still ongoing.
