A quiet Sunday morning (August 28) in Mission Valley East took on a different look just after 8 a.m. A contingent of San Diego police, fire and rescue personnel, and shopping-center security cordoned off a large portion of Hazard Center for use for an active-shooter drill.
The shooter fired dummy rounds toward several mock victims before entering the high-rise and creating a scene of havoc with employees taken as hostages.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived under police guard and tended to those injured, transporting some. The exercise ran from 6:30 to 11:00 a.m., but the majority of the visual action lasted from only 9 till 9:45.
