Monday 22
Brass quartets are a bit unusual, but the Westerlies will blow into town with Riley Mulherkar and Zubin Hensler on trumpets and Andy Clausen and Willem de Koch on trombones for a show at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) at 8 p.m. Tickets will run you $15 cash at the door.

Wednesday 24
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series on the patio and continuing indoors when he leads the jam session from 8:30 to 11 p.m. All ages, no cover… L.A. saxophonist Charles Owens plays in an intimate duo format with guitarist Bob Boss at Dizzy’s at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 cash at the door.

Gary Rich hosts the Harbor Jazz Jam session at Harbor Breakfast (1502 India Street) with Jason Shattil on piano, Benjamin Wanicur on bass, and Matthew Smith on drums from 7 to 10 p.m. No cover charge... The San Diego Symphony presents Jazz Guitar Masters, featuring Russell Malone, Peter Sprague, Anthony Wilson, with Rodney Whitaker and Willie Jones III and special guest Mundell Lowe at the Embarcadero Marina Park South (200 Marina Park Way). Gilbert Castellanos presents a Tribute to Thelonious Monk featuring Joshua White, Kevin Kanner, Dean Hulett, and Leonard Patton at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) with shows at 7:30 and 9:30, tickets will run you $25 at the door… The Tjader Band with Tripp Sprague, Pat Burke, Robert Lanuza, Duncan Moore, Kevin Delgado, and Tommy Aros play the Pier South Resort (800 Seacoast Drive) at 6 p.m. Free... The Imperial Avenue Street Fair (28th Street and Imperial Avenue) is happening again featuring Rebecca Jade & The Cold Fact, Poncho Sanchez, Kamau Kenyatta, and many others. Music starts at 12 p.m. and goes to 9 p.m. and it is free... The Doug Trip Band with Doug Hartley, Katheleen Shoemaker, and Deborah Wolfe play the Café Bar Europa (873 Turquoise Street) from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover.
