A 49-year-old woman is in serious condition at a local hospital after she was run over by a car in the parking lot of a restaurant Thursday night, August 4, in San Diego’s Bay Park neighborhood.
The accident happened about 8:40 p.m. at the McDonald’s franchise located at 3001 Clairemont Drive.
Witnesses told San Diego police that the woman appeared to be very intoxicated as she exited the building and walked to the parking lot where she was subsequently found to be seriously injured after being run over by a car that was driven by a 53-year-old male.
San Diego police say that the driver got into his Mazda and was driving out of the restaurant parking spot when he pulled forward, felt a bump, and stopped.
After exiting his car the driver saw that he had struck the woman who was lying in the parking lot.
According to San Diego police officer Robert Heims, it hasn’t been determined if the woman fell or purposely lay down in the parking lot.
San Diego paramedics transported the woman to the hospital where she was being treated for a lacerated liver and a fractured pelvis. Emergency personnel say her injuries are not life-threatening.
Officer Heims says the SDPD Traffic Division is investigating.
