— Disabled vessel at the tip of Pt. Loma. Vessel is a 16ft. Bayliner w/2POB. Rescue West and 1Sam responds. Vessel fixes problem on own resources. Call cancelled.

— Truck in the water at the Northwest end of Fiesta Island. G1, 5L, 4Sam respond along with SDPD. SDPD handles with owner and tow truck.

— Missing kayaker at LJ shores. Kayaker is a 31 y/o Hispanic male. 1Sam, Rescue west and SDPD conduct a search. UTL and individual returned home eventually.

— Person yelling for help in the water at Fiesta bay near Gov’t Island. R-5, 24Sam, SDPD, E25, and M21 respond. Individual with SDPD.

April 4

— SMB LG’s request surfboat to contact a PWC in/near the surfline. R5 responds makes contact with PWC. Operator states he is with military training. R5 escorts to dock. 4Sam spoke with PWC operator Chain of Command. Cleared and released.

— HP assisted a kayaker in South San Diego Bay who fell into the water and was unable to get back into his kayak. The subject and his kayak were transported back to land.

— HP was dispatched to investigate a crime at a Shelter Island Marina. During the contact with the reporting party, investigating officers were continually interrupted by another person interfering with the investigation. The officers arrested him for being intoxicated and interfering with law enforcement.

April 2

— HP responded near buoy 18 to assist the Coast Guard on a vessel stop. After a vessel inspection was conducted, Harbor Police arrested one subject for being in possession of narcotics and a fighting weapon. The other subject aboard was issued a citation for additional drug related charges.

— HP impounded a small Bayliner vessel that was partially stripped and abandoned at the Shelter Island Launch Ramp. The crime is still under investigation.

April 1

— HP contacted a boater in the A-3 Anchorage for not displaying proper registration. During the contact the subject was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant and other charges.

March 31

— HP responded to a commercial vessel that collided with a dock near Broadway Pier. The “Adventure Hornblower” vessel lost mechanical propulsion and subsequently collided with the dock. Several passengers were injured. The Coast Guard is investigating the accident.

March 30

— HP investigated a theft of some objects that were taken from the interior of a docked vessel in the Harbor Island area.

March 29

— HP contacted a subject near South Marina Park that was fishing without a valid license. It was found that the subject had an outstanding felony warrant and he was arrested.

March 27

— HP investigated a possible hydraulic fluid spill near Shelter Island. The cause and/or source is still under investigation.

March 26

— HP issued a citation to a boater who was staying in the Harbor Police transient slips without a valid permit.

— HP responded to a jetski collision in the Central San Diego Bay area. Two inexperienced jetski operators collided while turning sharply and were injured. Both riders were taken to hospital One of the jet skis was totaled.

March 25

— HP towed an unoccupied vessel from the Harbor Police transient slips that did not have a valid permit.

— HP stopped a small runabout boat that was towing a skier in central San Diego Bay for a violation. The vessel had mechanical issues during the stop, so Harbor Police towed it to the Glorietta Bay Launch ramp.

March 22

— HP was dispatched to Broadway Pier to investigate a fire aboard the 400-foot US Coast Guard Ice Breaker Ship, “Polar Star.” The small fire was immediately extinguished by the crew of the ship and was found to be an electrical issue within the engine supply room.

March 20

HP responded to Driscoll’s Boat Yard on Shelter Island to investigate a sunken vessel creating some environmental pollution. The small amount of fuel was immediately controlled by Driscoll’s management and the boat was later raised and taken to the South Bay to be taken out of water.

— HP responded to the America’s Cup Harbor to investigate a subject aboard a vessel without the owner’s consent. The incident was found to be civil matter. HP then assisted the subject off the boat at the owner’s request.

San Diego Lifeguards are a 24-hour rescue agency whose responsibilities include water rescue, boat rescue, marine fire suppression, coastal cliff rescue, underwater search and recovery, swift water and flood search, rescue and emergency medical response. San Diego Lifeguards also handle enforcement of city, state and federal laws and regulations. Lifeguards are classified as peace officers with the power of arrest.
