Los Angeles billionaire Eli Broad, said to be interested in buying the L.A. Times and San Diego Union-Tribune from embattled Tribune Publishing of Chicago, continues to give big to members of the Democratic Party.
Latest contributions include $5400 to the campaign committee of New York senator Chuck Schumer. Broad’s wife Edythe kicked in $29,700. Broad also gave $5400 to senator Patty Murray of the state of Washington, and $2700 to Vermont senator Patrick Leahy.
The second annual “Darrell Issa Victory Fund Weekend” was thrown by the North County Republican congressman at Middleburg, Virginia’s Salamander Resort & Spa from September 5 through 7, according to the Sunlight Foundation’s PoliticalPartyTime.org. The luxury getaway, which advertises “shimmering expanses of marble, dual sinks, showers with body jets and pedestal tubs,” is a longtime Issa favorite.
