The Ben Wanicur Trio, with Ian Tordella on saxophone and Duncan Moore on drums, hosts the jam session at 3rd Space (4610 Park Boulevard) from 8 to 11 p.m. $5 cover charge.

Wednesday 4
There is no Young Lions concert tonight, but Gilbert Castellanos is hosting the Wednesday jam session at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado), where scads of heavyweights come to throw down. 8:30–11:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, all ages welcome.

The AAA Jazz Celebration Series continues with Leonard Patton, Curtis Taylor, and Rob Whitlock at Northern Spirits Jazz Club (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover, no minimum… Besos de Coco with Lorraine Castellanos, Evona Wascinski, and Claudia Gomez play Panama 66 starting at 7 p.m. No cover.

Friday 6
The Danny Green Trio, with Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm, plus guests Eva Scow and Sarah Cabral, play at the Music Box (formerly Anthology) (1337 India Street) at 8 p.m. $12 at the door.

The Brad Mehldau Trio, with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums, return to Athenaeum Jazz at the Auditorium at The Scripps Research Institute (10620 John Jay Hopkins Drive) at 7:30 p.m. This concert is sold out, but some tickets may become available at the door. $35 general admission… Robin Adler & Mutts of the Planet pay tribute to Joni Mitchell’s For The Roses album at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) $20 at the door… The Whitlock/Moore Jazz Trio Tonight, with Amber Whitlock, Rob Whitlock, and Duncan Moore, play the U.S. Grant Hotel (326 Broadway) from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. No cover.
