That said, the guys that are getting out on private boats and kayaks are getting a few more yellowtail and occasional white seabass than the 1/2 counts would indicate in the same areas, so maybe there is something to stealth on the ocean, after all. Calico bass are on the chew and the rockfish are consistent. Tuna have found U.S. waters and El Nino is going to be interesting this year.
Freshwater kind of has its own El Nino this year. With the super low lake levels concentrating the fish, anglers are scoring well on all varieties of non-stocked species, as well as those stocked for take. Thus, reinforcing the idea that great fishing might not always be a sign of a healthy fishery. Please be judicious with your take, and don't leave anything behind that you took with you in the first place. Worm boxes, line, butts, cans and other trash always detract from the experience for all.

14 anglers aboard the Chubasco II 1/2 day am run caught 75 calico bass and released 46 of them.
The Dolphin 1/2 day morning run with 27 anglers at the rail reported 4 sculpin and 35 rockfish caught. 12 anglers aboard their afternoon 1/2 day run boated 14 rockfish and 3 calico bass. Another 20 calicos were caught and released.
8 anglers aboard the Premier 1/2 day afternoon run caught 50 calico bass, of which 38 were released.
28 anglers hopped aboard the San Diego for a 3/4 day Coronado Island run and returned to the dock with 6 barracuda, 1 yellowtail, 7 calico bass and 20 bonito in their gunnysacks.
