Brothers Jan Harald Portocarrero and Erik Portocarrero pleaded guilty today (May 1) to operating an internet and telephone sports-gambling ring in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas. It was based in Lima, Peru, and called "Macho Sports."
Joseph Barrios, a bookmaker, also pleaded guilty, admitting he recruited and managed sub-bookies and collected debt, sometimes using force.
The defendants agreed to forfeit $12 million seized from the illegal enterprise.
The Porocarrero brothers were arrested in 2013, but one was nabbed in Oslo, Norway. He fought extradition for two years, but on Wednesday Norway extradited him.
