15 Anglers on the Pacific Queen 1.5 Day trip boated 116 Rockfish and 34 Yellowtail off Colonet
The Malihini 3/4 Day run with 11 Anglers aboard reported 2 Sculpin, 2 Barracuda, 1 Barred Sand Bass, 2 Lingcod, 15 Rockfish, 7 Bonito and 34 California Yellowtail caught at the Coronado Islands
17 Anglers fishing aboard the Premier on their 1/2 Day AM run caught 2 Halfmoon, 1 Halibut, 73 Rockfish, 3 Sculpin, 50 Mackerel and 1 Ocean Whitefish
Down at the Coronados, the Point Loma 3/4 Day carrying 16 Anglers called in with 36 Yellowtail, 1 Rockfish and 2 Bonito in the gunnysacks
The Tribute ran out to Cortez Bank for their 1.5 Day trip carrying 29 Anglers and reported 7 Yellowtail, 20 Bonito and only 2 Bluefin Tuna, in spite of seeing some large schools still in the area. Choppy water and Sea Lions were part of the problem. They lost several Yellowtail and Bluefin to the "Dogs". Yup, even at 125 miles out, you will lose one to a Sea Lion.
14 Anglers aboard the Voyager 1.5 Day run down the Baja coast put 6 Yellowtail and 134 Rockfish in the hold
The Pacific Voyager 2.5 Day also ran down the coast with 16 Anglers aboard and got near limits of 144 Yellowtail and 160 Rockfish
The New Seaforth 1/2 Day PM run with 29 Anglers aboard reported 84 Rockfish caught
All in all, pretty darn good fishing for the first day of March. Groundfish is now open from Pt. Conception down to the border (closed Jan 1 to Feb 28), so I expect to see some nice Reds and Lingcod coming in from the guys fishing the Bluefin at Cortez and Tanner Banks.
