Finescale triggerfish wanders north; another sign of El Niño

Looks like the barracuda are starting to bite in numbers, the tuna are still in town, and a finescale triggerfish decided to move north of its normal haunts. A few are caught each year from San Diego-based boats, especially during El Niño years, as the triggerfish is a tropical and subtropical species not given usually to water cooler than 70 degrees.

Monday, Tuesday dock totals:

57 anglers aboard 2 boats out of Chubasco 2 Sportfishing caught 84 calico bass, 1 halibut, 1 lingcod, 41 rockfish, 9 sand bass, 1 sheephead and 1 finescale triggerfish.
