Acting on an anonymous tip, Tijuana police busted a downtown internet café over the weekend (June 6) that allegedly was being used as a brothel, a shooting gallery for drug addicts, and a place where minors could go to view online porn.

In a news release reprinted verbatim by at least two city dailies, public safety officials said officers raided the unidentified business in “Quadrant B,” an area of downtown bordered by Revolución and Constitución avenues between calles Segunda and Tercera.

The raid apparently took place sometime Saturday morning, but a specific date and time were not provided.

According to the (translated) police statement, “undercover agents entered the internet café, where they confirmed that customers, including minors, were permitted to enter pornography sites with dangerous content, and to take the drugs marijuana and crystal….

“They discovered residue of both drugs as well as used and unused condoms and lubricants used for sexual relations,” the police statement alleged.

Two managers at the business were taken before a municipal judge to determine their legal status, while code-enforcement authorities shuttered the building, police said.

The raid was part of a larger weekend police action in the area called Operativo confianza (“Operation Trust”), authorities said. Overall, 30 people were arrested.

“The SSPM [Municipal Secretary of Public Safety] celebrates the collaboration of citizens in the closing of centers of perversion for minors and adults...” said the statement, which provided phone numbers and an email address citizens could use to make anonymous complaints.
