Brace yourself for a gratuitous personal plug. With all due respect to my esteemed colleague, Jeff Smith, I thought my “review” of Kiss Me, Kate would mark a first and last move away from cinema. Watch what happens when A. Movie Curmudgeon finds love in the arms of the fairest lass in the Mather High School graduating class of ’74. Amanda Ghosh, my current girlfriend’s daughter — and recent theater and dance graduate of Pace University, NYC — is participating in a show that I think you’re gonna like!

I know as much about fringe theater as Amanda does about Nick Ray’s use of ’Scope — to me, fringe theater means Annie Get Your Gun — but proud mama, Renee Carroll, shared a video of her daughter’s thesis project, and there’s no denying brilliance doesn’t run in the family, it gallops!

Oak & Linden at the San Diego Fringe Festival

Be sure to check out Lemonade Stand Theatre’s latest one-act creation, Oak & Linden, at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. According to Amanda, “This devised piece brings to life the Ancient Greek love story of Baucis and Philemon in modern fashion, told through scenes, contemporary movement, images, song, and multimedia.” Who can ask for better entertainment?

For those out of the loop, I’m told Lemonade Stand Theatre believes in high collaboration where creating theater is concerned. That means utilizing the combined talent of company playwrights, directors, choreographers, filmmakers, sound designers, musicians, and artists.

Oak & Linden will be presented at the Rosewood Five Studio, 1150 Seventh Avenue, aka the basement venue underneath Yoga One. Showtimes are Wednesday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, July 31, at 9 p.m.; and Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 (add $5 for the one-time purchase of a coveted and highly collectible SD Fringe Festival tag). A mere $15! You probably dropped more than that to see Ant-Man in 3D! Visit lemonadestandtheatre.com for tickets or more information.

The future of my happiness hinges on your participation, folks. Please, pack the place or suffer the consequence of a quick and vengeful return to my old miserable self!
