With conductors canceling and the San Diego Symphony doing double duty at Symphony Hall and the Civic Theater, it’s time to shuffle things around this week.
I want to talk first about Opera on the Concourse. This is San Diego Opera’s gig and features singers from the current production giving advice to voice students from USD, SDSU, and PLNU. The current production is La Boheme, so members of the cast will be there to help bring the youngsters along. The students have been required to audition for the program so the quality of the singing should be pretty good.
Opera on the Concourse is at noon on Thursday, January 29 at the Civic Theater. Following Opera on the Concourse is a rare Thursday performance of La Boheme at 7 p.m., also at the Civic Theater.
The Thursday performance was scheduled in order to make way for John Williams conducting at the San Diego Symphony on Friday and Saturday, but Maestro Williams has had to withdraw due a “temporary minor health issue.” The current Boston Pops conductor, Keith Lockhart, will be filling in for Williams.
The concerts are on only on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall, with the orchestra then playing the 2 p.m. matinee of La Boheme on Sunday.
