A Lemon Grove man was caught over the weekend attempting to cross the border into the U.S. with a gas tank full of liquid methamphetamine, Border Patrol officials are reporting.
The unnamed 39-year-old was stopped at around 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon for questioning at the Calexico port of entry, southeast of El Centro. Upon noticing "anomalies with the undercarriage of the vehicle," the man was referred to secondary, where his vehicle was searched using a narcotics-sniffing dog and a digital imaging system.
The search turned up a hidden 15-gallon compartment inside the gas tank of the Ford F-250 pickup, which held an estimated $750,000 worth of narcotics. Both the vehicle and drugs were seized, the driver was arrested.
Also, on Sunday night, agents in San Diego intercepted three women and one male juvenile attempting to enter the country illegally via jet ski .
Border Patrol agents observed two jet skis traveling from Mexican waters into the U.S. shortly after 10 p.m., and tracked them to Coronado's Silver Strand beach. A Coast Guard cutter attempted to pursue the ski operators, who fled back to Mexico after dropping four passengers on the beach.
The individuals, women aged 18, 20, and 40, along with a 15-year-old boy, were shortly located on the beach and taken into federal custody.
