The RadioShack Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing will result in store closings across the U.S. The company has posted a “potential store closure list” that includes nine stores in San Diego and the surrounding metro area.

According to a February 5 company press release, “RadioShack currently has approximately 4,000 company-owned stores in the U.S.” General Wireless Inc. will establish a “store within a store” with Sprint, in up to 1,750 of the stores it plans to acquire. Their total estimated store purchase is reported to be 1,500 to 2,400.

The stated closure list includes three in San Diego, at 16763 Bernardo Center Drive, 3462 Murphy Canyon Road, and 11865 Carmel Mountain Road. Also on the list: 510 Broadway (ste. 8), Chula Vista; 905 E. Plaza Boulevard, National City; and 9836 Mission Gorge Road, #19D, Santee. And 5500 Grossmont Center, La Mesa; 8849 Villa La Jolla Drive, #307, La Jolla; and 915 Pearl Street, La Jolla.

According to the press release, “stores that are closing are expected to sell remaining inventory.” The company's 1000+ franchise stores, including Mexican and Asian operations, are not included in the Chapter 11 filing.

Last September, the Reader published a story about the Hillcrest RadioShack; that store is not on the closure list at this time.
