Two women were apprehended at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 east of Pine Valley Tuesday evening, February 3, after being caught with a pair of men stashed in the trunk of their compact Mazda sedan.
While being detained in a secondary inspection area, a police dog alerted to the vehicle. Searching the car, agents opened the trunk and found two Mexican nationals who "were tightly packed in the trunk, sweating profusely, and unable to exit the car."
The unnamed women, both 21 years of age and U.S. citizens, were arrested and face federal human smuggling charges. Their vehicle was also impounded by authorities.
