Another shortbill spearfish in San Diego waters

The bonito are coming on strong locally and a few more exotics hit the dock yesterday. A striped marlin, 1 shortbill spearfish, and an opah were caught within 50 miles of San Diego. Here are the August 27 dock totals:

Chubasco 2 Sportfishing hosted 35 anglers aboard 1 boat and reported 2 sculpin, 28 sand bass, 12 rockfish, 36 yellowtail, 1 halibut, 30 calico bass, 30 bonito and 1 barracuda caught.

Dana Landing sent 4 anglers out aboard 1 boat for a total catch of 20 yellowfin tuna, 8 skipjack tuna and 1 dorado.

106 anglers aboard 4 boats out of Fisherman's Landing caught 2 sheephead, 6 barracuda, 15 sand bass, 42 rockfish, 1 halibut, 68 calico bass, 109 bonito, 323 yellowfin tuna, 1 Opah, 36 dorado and 19 bluefin tuna.

396 yellowfin tuna, 138 yellowtail, 1 striped marlin, 128 skipjack tuna, 184 dorado, 1 rockfish, 27 calico bass, 172 bonito, 30 barracuda, 1 shortbill spearfish and 1 sand bass were caught by the 230 anglers aboard 12 boats out of H&M Landing.

Helgren's Oceanside Sportfishing reported 45 anglers aboard 2 boats caught 40 mackerel, 10 calico bass, 14 yellowtail, 5 skipjack tuna, 8 dorado and 5 yellowfin tuna.

Point Loma Sportfishing hosted 46 anglers aboard 2 boats for a total catch of 133 yellowfin tuna, 51 dorado, 51 yellowtail and 36 skipjack tuna.

88 yellowtail, 103 dorado, 418 bonito, 654 yellowfin tuna, 43 bluefin tuna, 78 skipjack tuna, 1 sheephead, 3 sculpin, 14 sand bass, 15 rockfish, 1 lingcod, 10 calico bass and 5 barracuda were caught by the 317 anglers aboard 13 boats out of Seaforth Sportfishing.

Here are a few highlighted trips from yesterday's fishing;

18 anglers aboard The Islander for a 2 day trip boated 210 yellowfin tuna, 1 opah, 36 dorado and 6 bluefin tuna.

34 anglers aboard the Old Glory for a 1 day run put 9 yellowtail, 150 yellowfin tuna, 16 skipjack tuna and 70 dorado in the hold.

The Joanna took 2 anglers out on a 3/4 day run and reported 10 skipjack tuna, 1 shortbill spearfish, 2 dorado and 1 sand bass caught.

9 anglers aboard the Vendetta 3/4 day run put 6 yellowfin tuna, 13 dorado and 40 yellowtail in the hold.

The Tribute 1 day run carrying 33 anglers returned to the dock with 19 yellowtail, 122 yellowfin tuna, 30 skipjack tuna and 42 dorado.

20 anglers aboard the Apollo 2 day trip caught 207 yellowfin tuna and 9 bluefin tuna.

50 anglers aboard the New Seaforth am 1/2 day run boated 2 yellowtail, 1 dorado and 200 bonito.
