Trumpeter Dave Ballou joins bassist Mark Dresser and drummer Kjell Nordeson at UC San Diego’s The Loft (911 Lyman Lane) the music starts at 8:00 p.m. and the concert is free! … drummer Matt Smith’s Juice Box with Ed Kornhauser, Kevin Jones, and Louis Valenzuela team up with the HM3 featuring Harley Magsino, Joshua White and Charlie Weller to play Soda Bar (3615 El Cajon Boulevard) 21+, $5 cover.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos begins his double-shift evening by hosting the Young Lions Series at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) with featured artist Julian Esparza at 7:00 p.m. for a $5 cover. He plays the first set then heads over to the jam session at Seven Grand where the music hits at 9:00 p.m. 21+ no cover.
