A rumor is going around among San Diego business executives that real-estate mogul and city leader Malin Burnham is trying to raise money to buy U-T San Diego from real-estate mogul Douglas Manchester.
The sale — if it occurs — reputedly would not include the Mission Valley real estate. When Manchester bought the paper, many thought his main interest was the 12.9-acre Mission Valley property.
If any such deal goes forward, the paper would become a nonprofit, according to this rumor. Today, Reader reporter Matt Potter tried to get in contact with Burnham and U-T chief executive officer Mike Hodges, to no avail.
