Chargers' Owner Spanos: "Loose Lips Sink [Clipper] Ships"

An audiotape has recently surfaced in which a man tentatively identified as San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos chides former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for talking "about anything that matters to a woman."

Photo of Donald Sterling and Alex Spanos at meeting of the Sports-Owning Billionaires society (SOBs), 2008.

Longtime owner Sterling was recently banned from the NBA for racially offensive comments he made to his alleged girlfriend V. Stiviano during a phone conversation that she apparently recorded. Now, the gossipmongers at TMZ claim to have another recording, this one of a conversation between Spanos and Sterling.

"It bothers me a lot that you let it get out there that you talk about anything that matters to a woman," says the man TMZ claims is Spanos. "Do you have to?"

Sterling to Spanos: "Between the restraints, the booze, the drugs in the pipe, the knife, and her…other equipment, let's just say [V. Stiviano] had ways of making me talk."

Sterling says that all he did was talk with someone he's attracted to. "I think the fact that you're attracted to [Stiviano] — I've known her well, and you should be attracted," Spanos replies. "And I'm just saying that it's too bad you can't keep that to a purely physical thing. And during the next three or four years, be attracted to her — bring her on the road, feed her, fuck her, I don't care. You can do anything. But don't talk to her on the telephone for the world's women to hear so they think they're people. And don't bring her to poker night at the cabin in Vail. OK?"

Reached for comment, the San Diego Chargers and the NFL were quick to respond. "Women, amirite?" said Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco. "Always with the talking. And you see where it gets you?"

"Women are the single biggest obstacle faced by the National Football League today," added NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "It's bad enough we've diluted our brand with pink jerseys and crap for them to buy, even though they're constantly pulling true fans away from the television on Sunday to mow the lawn or play with the kids or some shit. But do you really expect me to believe this concussion thing would be an issue if it weren't for a bunch of busybody wives and mothers whining on behalf of their men? Sterling really should have known better than to open his yap to one of those…well, you know."
