Vocalist Jonathan Karrant celebrates America’s crooners at Martinis Above Fourth (3940 Fourth Avenue) with Ed Kornhauser on piano, Ben Wanicur on bass, and Duncan Moore on drums. Concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and the tickets are $20.

Wednesday 14
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos presents the Young Lions Series at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue), each week highlighting an up and coming jazzer under the age of 25. This week, it’s vocalist/guitarist Sahara Grimm with Jake Nuffer on guitar, Seth Irby on bass, and Alex Allen on drums. 7:00 p.m., $5 cover… Castellanos then shoots over to North Park for the Latin jazz jam session at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar (3054 University Avenue) to play with pianist Irving Flores, bassist Rob Thorsen, and drummer Mike Holguin. 9:00 p.m., no cover, bring your horns!... In their Wednesday @ 7 series, UCSD presents Red Fish Blue Fish, in the CPMC Experimental Theater (9500 Gilman Drive) general admission $15.50, concert time is 7:00 p.m.

The Mesa College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of James Romeo headline at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) also featured is the Mesa College World Music Ensemble under the direction of N. Scott Robinson. Downbeat at 7:30, $15 cover… head to Copley Symphony Hall (750 B Street) to see the Gilbert Castellanos New Latin Jazz Quintet performing in the Rachmaninoff in the Key Of Jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20… The Zinchiladas are doing that Latin thing at Wine Steals (1243 University Avenue), featuring Alex Lopez, Barry Jaquess, and Alberto Diaz from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. no cover charge.

Fresh Sound promises blistering free jazz with saxophonist Marco Eneidi from Vienna and drummer Cosmic Brujo from Mexico City, at Dizzy’s, starting at 7:30 p.m. $15 general admission, $10 for students… Jazz 88.3 presents Jazz Night San Diego starring the Charles McPherson Trio with guitarist Bob Boss and bassist Marshall Hawkins at Casa Artelexia (2400 Kettner Boulevard Suite 102). This event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a dinner provided by Wild Thyme Catering, and will set you back $100… Songbird Lorraine Castellanos digs in at the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue) with pianist Irving Flores and bassist Dean Hulett. 8:00 p.m., no cover, $20 food/drink minimum.
