Tuesday 1
The good folks at SD Center for the Arts will be present a special evening of solo percussion with Tatsuya Nakatani and special guests Mudhead. The organization has a new venue in North Park, (2141 El Cajon Boulevard). Concert is at 8 p.m. Tickets $15 general admission, $10 students… Pianist Brad Mehldau brings his trio featuring bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard to Athenaeum Jazz at TSRI (10640 John J. Hopkins Drive). The concert is sold-out… The Mattson 2 appear at El Dorado Cocktail Lounge (1030 Broadway), 10 p.m.

Wednesday 2
New music champion Bonnie Wright’s Fresh Sound concert series continues with a rare, west-coast appearance by the saxophonists Marty Ehrlich and Ned Rothenberg. Due to construction issues at her usual venue, this concert will be held at UC San Diego’s The Loft. 7:30 p.m. tickets are $15… Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos starts of the evening sitting in with the Young Lions at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) 7 p.m. $5 cover, before heading to the Latin Jazz Jam at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar (3054 University Avenue) featuring Irving Flores, Rob Thorsen, Mike Holguin and Charlie Chavez. 9 p.m. No cover, musicians bring your horns!

Thursday 3
Deejah Marie Pope and Turiya Mareya play Afro-Jazz, blues and Latin at Bella Vista Social Club and Caffe (2880 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive) at 5:30 p.m. No cover… The Tripp Sprague Quartet with Rob Whitlock on piano, Dave Marr on bass and Tim McMahon on drums perform at Croce’s Park West. 8 p.m., $5 cover.

There’s a jazz double-header at The Loft (9500 Gilman Drive) with the Matt Hall Bebop Explosion featuring trombonist Hall, with Gilbert Castellanos, Charlie Arbelaez, Jason Shattil, Katie Thiroux and Matt Witek. Opening is the Tim Lin Quartet with Kiefer Shackelford and Colin McDaniel. 8 p.m. $10 general public, UCSD students free with ID… Pianist Danny Green’s Trio with bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Juilen Cantelm are at the Oceanside Public Library (330 North Coast Highway) from 2:00-3:00 p.m., Free!... Gypsy Groove is doing that swing thing at Nate’s Garden Grill in City Heights (3120 Euclid Avenue) from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. No cover.
