Jazz is happening every night this week

Monday 10
Pianist Danny Green’s trio with bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm play a free noontime concert at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street, La Jolla). The Robin Henkel Band with horns and featuring vocalist Whitney Shay appear at Humphrey’s Backstage from 7-11 p.m. no cover charge.

Tuesday 11
Joe Garrison and Night People do a Jazz Live concert, sponsored by KSDS Jazz 88 at the Saville Theatre at San Diego City College. 8 p.m. $10 general admission, free to Jazz 88 members. This is highly recommended.

Wednesday 12
Tenor saxophonist Ben Schachter leads the Jam Session at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar (3054 University Avenue), with Joshua White, Rob Thorsen, and Duncan Moore. 9 p.m., no cover, musicians bring your horns!

Thursday 13
An intense double-header concert takes place at UC San Diego’s the Loft (9500 Gilman) with the Daniel Rosenboom Quintet featuring Gavin Templeton, Alex Noice, Kai Kurosawa, and Dan Schnelle opening, and the Joshua White Group featuring Peter Sprague with Hamilton Price, Ben Schachter and Dan Schnelle headlining. 8 p.m., $12 general admission, free to UCSD students.

Friday 14
Fusion comes alive at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) with Keneally, Bendian, Lunn. Guitar hero Mike Keneally, bassist Doug Lunn, and drummer Gregg Bendian will turn it up. 8 p.m. $20. Saxophonist Daniel Jackson leads a quartet featuring Joshua White at the San Diego Airport, Terminal II, free! Tenor saxophonist Ian Tordella does a Joe Henderson tribute with Justin Grinnell, Kevin Higuchi, and Jason Shattil at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner) 8 p.m., $15.

Saturday 15
Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra play a sold-out concert at the Balboa Theatre (868 Fourth Avenue). Chuck Perrin plays a rare San Diego concert at Dizzy’s under the title Back to the Beginning and featuring Daniel Jackson, Rob Thorsen, Patrick Armenta, Arnessa Rickett, and Carmelia Bell. 8 p.m. $15. Bassist Bob Magnusson plays Harry’s Bar & Grill (4370 La Jolla Village Drive).

Sunday 16
Dizzy’s salutes “Women in Jazz,” with a concert featuring Allison Adams Tucker, Melonie Grinnell, Evona Wascinski, Laurel Grinnell, Jamie Shadowlight, and Teagan Taylor. 7 p.m., $15.
