Tuesday 1
It’s time for the monthly jam session hosted by the Benjamin Wanicur Trio with Joshua White on piano, Wanicur on bass, and Julien Cantelm on drums at 3rd Space (4610 Park Boulevard) which begins at 8:00 p.m. and will cost you a $5 cover. All ages welcome, musicians bring your axe!

Wednesday 2
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos starts off his busy night by hosting the first set of the Young Lions Series at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) with this week’s artist, vocalist Lizzie Trumbore. Start time is 7:00 p.m. and the cover charge is $5 … then he’s off to the Jazz Jam Session at Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) with Joshua White on piano, drums and bass TBA. Downbeat is at 9:00 p.m., there’s no cover charge, and musicians are encouraged to sit in after the first set.

Thursday 3
The John Reynolds Quintet with Ian Tordella on sax, Paul Holtz on piano, Doug Walker on bass, and Kevin Higuchi on drums celebrate the music of Wynton Marsalis at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) at 8:00 p.m. $11 at the door … the Gilbert Castellanos Trio are setting up at Ortega’s Bistro (141 University Avenue) with Irving Flores on piano and Tommy Aros on percussion … Lower Left, the trio featuring pianist Mikan Zlatkovich, bassist Antar Martin and drummer Barry Farrar hit Northern Spirits (727 San Marcos Boulevard) from 7:30–10:30 p.m. for a $5 charge.

Start your jazz day early by checking out Latin Magic with Alex Lopez, Ray Roeder, John Cunningham, Alberto Diaz, and Johnny Salinas playing the Little Italy Farmers Market at the corner of Date and State Streets. The music starts at 8:30 a.m. and continues until 2:00 p.m. and it’s free! … the Gypsy Groove Hot Jazz Band featuring Bianca Lara, Aaron Streate, Tim Griffin, and Jason Durbin are playing Nate’s Garden Grill (3120 Euclid Avenue) from Noon till 3:00 p.m., no cover charge … the JazzKatz Project with vocalist Whitney Shay are taking over Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) at 8:00 p.m. for a $15 cover … vocalist Peter Marin appears with the Barry Farrar Trio featuring Kamau Kenyatta on piano, Jeff Blanco on bass and Farrar on drums at Solare Ristorante (2820 Roosevelt Road) from 8:30–11:30 p.m. Free admission.

Sunday 6
The Gypsy Groove Hot Jazz Band are at it with that hot swing thing again at Le Papagayo (1002 N. Coast Highway) in Encinitas from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30. Free admission.
