According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s search-warrant log, a young woman suspects that she was given a date-rape drug while she was bar-hopping in Encinitas last month; she reported waking up later in a man’s bed.
The woman (identified here as “Kelly”) told investigators that she and a female friend went to Cap’n Keno’s bar on Highway 101 on the night of December 12, 2013.
It was about 10 p.m. that Thursday night, when Kelly said she recognized a group of four men at the bar. The woman said she had dated two of the men and knew that all four were roommates at a home in Encinitas. Kelly said they were at Cap’n Keno’s for about two hours before they all went to the Daley Double Saloon, a few blocks down the highway.
While at the Daley Double, reported Kelly, one of the men named Jerry brought her a drink. After she finished the drink, Kelly claimed she could not remember most of the remainder of the night. She said she awoke in bed with the man named Jerry, collected her clothes, and went home. Later, Jerry sent an Instagram message telling Kelly that she had forgotten her purse at his home, she told investigators.
A few days later, a female friend told Kelly over the phone that a video existed of her having sex with multiple men. The purported video was supposedly taken with a cell phone by one of the four men Kelly had been drinking with on December 12.
San Diego County Sheriff’s detective Heather Bruton is investigating; she suspects the use of Rohypnol or GHB, known as “date-rape drugs.”
Officers conducted a search at the home of the four men, in the 600 block of Melba Road in Encinitas. Pills, computers, cell phones, and a GoPro camera were collected as evidence. Jail records suggest that no arrests have been made in the case.
