Seasonal mixed catch

A few Yellows showed in North County yesterday as the seas calmed from the last couple fronts. Expect lots of surge this week due to high tide flux. The incoming tides tend to work well for the bass fishing off the kelp as they allow the boat to lay stern-in and get the chum to the fish under the canopy. The high tides will run from about 7am today to 10am by Christmas Day, making early morning the prime fishing time.

The water temp has dropped to an average of 63 degrees, still a few degrees above the average for this time of year so we should be experiencing a seasonal mixed catch with some surface action still popping up while the boats are transitioning into the groundfish season.

There are still Tuna trips scheduled to Tanner and Cortez banks from Oceanside- and the L.A.-area landings. The long-range boats are slaying the Wahoo from Alijos Rocks south and along the Ridge. Lots of school-sized Yellowfin Tuna in the Mag Bay area to 40 pounds and 300 miles to the south of there, some nice cows over 200 pounds showing up on the Hurricane Bank and Clarion

Only a couple half-day boats made it out yesterday. I have to admit I'm excited to see what's going on in the 3/4 and 1.5 day range this week before Christmas, so get out there on one of the local boats and let me know what's up. Tight Lines!
