On December 9, San Diegans Sally and Louis Rumpf filed suit in federal court in Colorado, blaming faulty instructions for her injury falling from a ski lift. The suit charges that the lift attendant for Sunlight, Inc. of Glenwood Springs negligently was trying to herd skiers onto the lift quickly.
According to the suit, Louis Rumpf saw his wife "hanging lifelessly on the outside of the chair with her right hand while the rest of her body began sliding under the lift." Louis Rumpf then "watched helplessly as the lift dragged his wife up the mountain until her left shoulder caught a packed snow incline under the lift." She then fell to the ground and lay motionless, according to the suit. The lift operator tried to move her, exacerbating her injuries, according to the suit. She dislocated her left shoulder, requiring medical aid at home. The Rumpfs are asking for $16,000 for her loss of ability to work, $77,000 for medical expenses, and other amounts to be revealed at trial.
